Top Pros Come to Ealing Golf Club

Local course hosts the inaugural TP Tour London Pairs Open

Top pros were out in force at Ealing Golf Club for the inaugural TP Tour London Pairs Open, attracted by what Golf Monthly magazine has recently described as ‘some of the finest and fastest greens around’.

The new competition drew a strong field of 46 pairs, including Ryder Cup player Paul Broadhurst.

After 18 holes the top 6 pairs making the ‘cut’ played an extra 4 holes. After 22 the top 2 pairs, both with a betterball score of 8 under par, could not be separated. Eventually European Tour and Challenge Tour players James Heath and Adam Gee came out on top, with Adam holing a 12 foot putt on the second hole of a sudden death play-off.

Both the organisation of the tournament and the immaculate condition of the course were highly praised, with winner James Heath rating Ealing’s greens as ‘comfortably the best greens I have putted on in England’ (and amongst the fastest too, with the Stimp meter reading of 13).

In a field of seasoned professionals, twoEaling Juniors, Harry Maguire and Drew Nugent, deserved special mention for a fantastic 4th place with a score of 6 under par.

The TP Tour was set up by former Ryder Cup player and European Tour No.1 Ronan Rafferty to attract both experienced pros looking for additional competitive play and aspiring younger pros. 2013 members already include 8 Ryder Cup Stars and 15 European Tour winners.

Ealing Golf Club joins an impressive roster of TP Tour courses including Walton Heath, The Grove and Royal St. Georges, Sandwich.
