Electoral 'Cock-Up' With Ealing Forms

15,000 residents received return envelopes with Birmingham addresses

A printing error has meant thousands of Ealing borough residents have been sent electoral forms with envelopes to be returned to Birmingham, and vice versa.

The forms want confirmation of occupants of the address to check people's eligibility to vote. Returning the information is a legal requirement and failing to do so risks a £1,000 fine.

However, Birmingham residents found they had envelopes addressed to Ealing Council and Ealing to Birmingham. Both Councils are investigating with the contractor how this mistake happened.

An Ealing Council spokesperson said they estimate about 15,000 people have received the wrong envelopes, but say there will be no additional cost to the council to rectify the mistake.
