Latest Crime Figures for the Ealing Area

Ealing Borough ranked second best in the Metropolitan Police Service

The latest Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) statistics show that Ealing Borough is achieving sustained falls in crime and the borough’s most active criminals are being targeted or already in custody.

Statistics reveal that between 1st April – 15th July 07 we have reduced overall crime by nine per cent compared with the same period in 2006, which is slightly better than the overall crime reduction in the MPS of six per cent.

Ealing is currently ranked the second best borough in the MPS with a reduction of over 1,100 British Crime Survey offences during the same period. (British Crime Survey Crime Classifications can be viewed in the notes section)

"Our current overall detection rate is 23.5 per cent, the best it has ever been and we are well on track to achieving our 24 per cent target," said a Police Spokespercent,

During the same period there were also crime reductions in the priority crime areas. Personal Robbery is down 30.9 per cent, Theft Person (Pickpockets / Snatch) is down 30.2 per cent, Overall Burglary is down 2.6 per cent, Motor Vehicle Crime is down 23.4 per cent and overall violent crime is down 2 per cent.

Community and Partnership Superintendent, Ian Jenkins said:
“The excellent results achieved in crime reduction at present are a testament to the hard work carried out by police officers, police community support officers and excellent partnership with the local Authority.

"What this actually means is that contrary to speculation, not only are we achieving sustained reductions in crime, we are improving month on month.

"I would like to pay tribute to the police officers, police staff, the local authority, our partner agencies from the Safer Ealing Partnership and the wider community who have worked tirelessly to help us achieve these successes.

"The crime reduction activities being undertaken by the Safer Ealing Partnership are not only reducing crime they are also designed to assist in reducing the fear of crime.

"Partnership is crucial to our success and we will continue to work closely with the local authority and the community to help make Ealing borough a safer place to live work and visit.”

The police say there is continued great success with proactive operations such as targeting our priority offenders, tackling antisocial behaviour, the closure of local crack houses and cannabis factories, Operation Doddery, the motor vehicle decoy initiative and the introduction of the Safer Transport Team is improving safety on the boroughs transport network.

There are currently four (4) dispersal orders and six (6) controlled drinking zones in place across the borough to tackle Anti social behaviour and twenty-four (24) of our persistent priority offenders are on remand or in custody.

Since their introduction in May, the Safer Transport Team has provided high visibility patrolling on 16 local bus routes across the borough tackling low-level crime and disorder. The teams’ presence has had an immediate impact in the public's confidence and safety as they travel on the network to carry out their daily business.

Twenty three Safer Neighbourhood Teams continue to tackle quality of life crimes that effect people's perception of crime and therefore increase their fear of crime.

A recent taskforce day in Acton involved representatives from 45 partner organisations resulted in the seizure of sixteen untaxed / uninsured cars and 28 arrests were made for offences such as drugs, immigration, theft, public order and wanted on warrant.

Ealing Borough has also achieved the following results:
