And your eyes peeled for the Safer Neighbourhoods Team poster campaign
A bold new poster campaign to reduce street crime is urging residents of all ages to keep their i-Pods, mobile phones and other valuables out of view in public places.
The ‘conceal, don’t reveal’ poster aims to raise awareness and encourage residents to protect themselves from street crime. It was produced by the Safer Ealing Partnership - including Ealing Council and police - with funding provided by London Crimestoppers.
Councillor Sue Emment, cabinet member for safer communities, said: “The posters will be displayed in local businesses, schools and other community venues.
“We are urging people to keep their valuables out of view when they are riding public transport or walking around in town centres and busy areas.
“When you do have to take your phone or i-Pod out in a public place, be aware of who’s around you.
“Street robbers tend to be opportunistic. Don’t make yourself an easy target. If thieves can’t see your possessions, it makes it much harder for them to steal them.”
Police statistics show that between 1 April and 7 November 2006 there were 335 reported incidents of pickpocket offences across Ealing borough. Victims had their property taken from their person or their bags in shops, queuing at the post office, on the bus, on the tube and at ATM machines.
