Ealing Council will enter a new four-year term with a Labour administration and a significantly expanded Liberal Democrat opposition, following the local elections held on 7 May. Both groups have now announced the roles that various councillors will be taking on.

The political appointments for the coming cycle will be formally confirmed at the next council meeting on Tuesday 26 May and the first cabinet meeting of the new administration will take place on Wednesday 10 June.

In addition to the leader there are 9 cabinet members, each with a specific area of responsibility .

  • Councillor Jasbir Anand, tackling crime and antisocial behaviour
  • Councillor Steve Donnelly, inclusive economy and efficiency
  • Councillor Paul Driscoll, healthy equal lives
  • Councillor Monica Hamidi, good growth
  • Councillor Blerina Hashani, fairer start
  • Councillor Dominic Moffitt, climate action
  • Councillor Kamaljit Kaur Nagpal, decent living incomes
  • Councillor Lauren Wall, thriving communities

Council Leader Peter Mason said, “Over the next four years, our focus is on delivering the things residents have told us matter most to them,” he said. “Whether that is thousands of more genuinely affordable homes, tens of thousands extra jobs, more trees and parks, better roads and pavements, great schools and transformed social care, our track record of delivering on the promises we make has been, and will continue to be, the hallmark of how we go about our business.”

He added that the administration would continue to run the council “with ruthless efficiency”, aiming to keep council tax as low as possible while investing in essential services. He emphasised that Labour’s values would guide decision-making: strengthening families and community networks, ensuring all seven towns in the borough benefit from economic growth, and giving residents greater influence over local decisions.

Cabinet members, once confirmed on 10 June, will be responsible for initiating policy, taking key decisions and acting as spokespeople for their portfolios.

The Liberal Democrats, now with 13 councillors, are the largest opposition group, and form the Official Opposition. The party made gains in Hanger Hill, Ealing Common, Ealing Broadway and Walpole, while retaining Southfield.

Announcing their new shadow cabinet, the Liberal Democrats said the election results reflected residents’ frustration with rising living costs and concerns about local services.

Their Shadow Cabinet will be:

  • Leader of the Opposition – Cllr Gary Malcolm
  • Planning, Licensing & Regeneration; Deputy Leader & Whip – Cllr John Ball
  • Finance – Cllr Jonathan Oxley
  • Honesty and Accountability – Cllr Mark Sanders
  • Children’s Services – Cllr Adam Keenan
  • Adult Services – Cllr Andrew Steed
  • Environment & Crime – Cllr Athena Zissimos
  • Culture, Sport and Communities – Cllr Connie Hersch
  • Transport – Cllr Gary Busuttil

Cllr Malcolm said residents had “voted decisively for a strengthened Liberal Democrat opposition” and criticised the outgoing administration’s record on children’s centres, adult day services and the condition of local high streets. He said the group would focus on holding the council to account while promoting partnership-based solutions.
