Find out all about the borough's important role and influence
Ealing is to be celebrated as the home of rock music, at a popular literary event next week.
The borough's important history has just been spotlighted on SKY Arts with the showing of Surburban Steps to Rockland - a documentary about the Ealing Club.
As part of the Chiswick Book Festival, music aficionado Robert Hokum will be launching his book The A-Z of Ealing Rock Music.
The event is sponsored by the University of West London (UWL), which counts Queen frontman, Freddie Mercury, and The Who singer-song writer Pete Townshend as alumni.
Robert, the founder of the Ealing Blues Festival, will be speaking at the Gunnersbury Park and Museum on Wednesday, 18 September. He will be joined by author and journalist Caroline Frost to discuss the Ealing scene’s influence on the world of popular music and to talk about his book.
Professor Nicholas McKay, Director of London College of Music at UWL, said: “Ealing has been home to some of the world’s biggest names in rock music, and UWL has a big role in developing this talent. We’re really proud to be supporting this event and I am sure there will be many more musical stars who will develop their talents with us in the future.”
The University is supporting two further events at the festival on the same date - The Dambusters Story told by Max Hastings and a chance to listen to Cressida Cowell, the new Children’s Laureate. as she discusses her top tips on how to become an author or illustrator. Cressida is the multi-million selling, award-winning author of the ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ and the ‘Wizards of Once’ series.
