1,000 More Residents for Windmill Road

Residents hear plans for tower blocks on W5/TW8 border

Residents packed out a local school this evening (Monday 20th June) and heard passionate arguments about why plans for a new housing development should be fought.

The Reynard Mills Trading Estate on Windmill Road  (on the Ealing/Brentford border) could become the home to five tower blocks, housing 1,000 more people, if an application from property investors Invista Real Estate is approved by Hounslow Council.

Around 130 people attended the meeting at Our Lady and St John's RC school on Boston Park Road and heard members of the newly formed Windmill Road Action Group tell how the development would put an intolerable strain on schools, GP surgeries and local roads.

Ealing resident MarkTrowell highlighted traffic and car parking concerns.

Mr Trowell, a surveyor, said the situation around Windmill Road was already tricky and the area would be dramatically impacted by 1,000 more people moving in.

He said : '' The size of the scheme is out of kilter with the local area. The volume of residents moving in will have a big effect, roads will become rat-runs and parking - which is already bad - is only going to get worse.''

Campaign organiser and teacher, Antoinette McGovern, spoke for many in the audience horrified about the impact of such a population boom in such a small area.

She referred to the current pressure on local schools and the huge demand for places at both primary and secondaries and raised her own concerns over the lack of decent quality family housing that was being proposed.

Ms McGovern said the campaign 'was not about nimbyism' but about ' highlighting very serious community issues which we all are passionate about and want to have a say in.''

Audience members were angry that the plans had only just been made public.

Campaigners are urging everyone to register with:  windmillroadaction@gmail.com

Plans of the proposed development are available for inspection at Brentford Library (0208 560 8801).

If you wish to discuss the application or make an appointment email case officer Nikolas.Smith@hounslow.gov.uk and objections can be sent directly to him.

The deadline for comments to the development is 4th July.
