Drawing with Light shows previously unseen work by four photoraphers
The William Morris Society is hosting a new exhibition called Drawing with Light: Photographs from the William Morris Society Collection from 30 August till February 28, 2019 in the Coach House of Kelmscott House on Hammersmith's Upper Mall.
This new exhibition brings together for the first time original photographic reproductions and digital prints taken from glass lantern slides.
In curating this exhibition, Helen Elletson has revealed the importance of photography within the Arts and Crafts movement with carefully selected narratives and images of key individuals and places.
The exhibition focuses on four photographers, all passionate about their craft, from recognised names such as Emery Walker (1851-1933) and the renowned photographer Frederick Hollyer (1838-1933), to the lesser known but no less important figures of John Robert Parsons (1826-1909) and Arthur Halcrow Verstage (1875-1969).
It features previously unseen images of William Morris, his family and his homes, as well as Morris & Co. art works, including paintings and tapestries designed by Burne-Jones for Morris & Co. and tapestry panels designed by Morris himself and John Henry Dearle.
The exhibition opens on 30 August in the Coach House at 26 Upper Mall.
Please note that to allow for installation there will be no access to the Coach House on Thursday 23 August and a reduced display on Saturday 25 August.
