The ideal time for anyone to show support for the Mulberry Centre is coming up with all donations being doubled for one week.

The centre is an independent charity and award-winning cancer information and support centre based on the grounds of West Middlesex University Hospital (WMUH) in Isleworth. It is the only information and support centre of its kind in the local area offering free services to anyone affected by cancer, regardless of their postcode. From the moment of diagnosis through treatment and post-discharge, it supports people and their families, including carers and those bereaved. 1 in 2 of us will face cancer at some point in our lives, the demand for services has grown, and local community support is more critical than ever.

This year it is the charity is taking part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge. From midday 28 November to midday 5 December, every Big Give online donation that someone makes, will be doubled, so if you donate £50 this equates to £100, and so on. Each donation received will have twice the impact, as every pound donated will be matched by a ‘Big Give Champion’ and the individuals who have already pledged to the campaign. The Mulberry Centre aims to raise £4,500 in online donations in just one week. Any amount given, large or small, will significantly improve the wellbeing of people affected by cancer and only online donations made to The Mulberry Centre campaign page will count towards the target and be doubled.

The Mulberry Centre hopes to count on community support on #GivingTuesday – Tuesday 28 November - when the campaign week goes live. Donated funds will provide a range of free services and tailored cancer support to individual needs.

Sacha who was one of the beneficiaries of the centre’s support said, Sacha said, “I accessed The Mulberry Centre services after my chemo and radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer had finished and I was able to reflect on the difficult year I had experienced, I recognised that I would benefit from some emotional support to help heal my mind. I was suffering from very high anxiety levels when I first visited the centre, and the services and treatments offered to me have had a huge impact on my mental recovery.  I benefited from six reiki/reflexology sessions, one urgent counselling session and six planned counselling sessions.  The reiki/reflexology helped me to relax my incredibly tense body and gave me the environment and tools to release some of the physical anxiety that I was holding on to.  The emergency counselling was invaluable as I had panicked when I received my annual mammogram appointment and all the feelings of fear and despair flooded back, and the six planned counselling sessions gave me a wonderful opportunity to talk through all the stresses and worries that plagued my mind.  The impact of these services on my emotional, physical, and psychological well-being has been enormously positive. The staff and volunteers offer a safe environment for people who are seeking support; they offered me an anchor to keep my emotions grounded and a safe space to be sad and feel vulnerable.”

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We've always done that and won't be changing, in fact we'd like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we'd be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you'd like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
