The Kazaks Are Coming!

Young volunteers seek a roof over their heads during their half of Global Xchange

Nine young volunteers from Kazakhstan who will be spending three months in Hounslow are desperately seeking five friendly families with a spare room in or near the borough.

The young Kazakhstanis will be giving 6000 hours of voluntary time to projects in Hounslow, as part of third Global Xchange there. Teamed up with nine British youngsters the group will be starting work in December, and will lodge with local households as part of the cultural exchange.

Tim Anfield, Global Xchange project supervisor, said "If you have one spare room, please consider hosting a pair of volunteers, they're self-sufficient and independent so won't need to be looked after. Hosts receive a weekly allowance and are supported by two project supervisors throughout the exchange."

Mr Mafe from Hounslow will be hosting volunteers for the third time, he says "It is a pleasure having company about the house, and being able to help people and understand the way of life of British people and Africans and Sri Lankans. This time I'm looking forward to learning more about Kazakhstan."

This will be the third time Hounslow has taken part in the exchange run by VSO, the British Council and CSV (Community Service Volunteers), which will bring together young people from the UK and Kazakhstan in central Asia.

The two previous Global Xchanges in Hounslow saw young people from Nigeria and Sri Lanka living and working in the borough. Global Xchange is funded by BAA Communities Trust in partnership with V, a new youth volunteering charity launched by Government earlier this year.
