Decision to close Chiswick Park ticket office reversed

Plans to close the ticket office at Chiswick Park tube station as well as 39 others across London have been overturned by Boris Johnson.

In an ongoing programme of decision reversals, the new mayor announced that all 40 of the ticket offices that faced closure would now remain open.

The move has been welcomed by campaigners who argued that the proposals, put forward by former mayor Ken Livingstone, would make stations less safe especially in the evenings.

Calling it "a victory for common sense" the decision was also welcomed by London Underground staff.
