No charge for activities to mark one year to go to London Olympics
Hounslow leisure centres are joining the 2012 Olympic buzz and will be opening their doors with a weekend of free activities and celebration challenges to mark the one year countdown to the London Olympics from Friday 22nd July to Sunday 24th July.
With the recent refurbishments now complete it’s also an opportunity to check out the finished result.
Special activities for kids will give a glimpse of the 2012 spirit including sport camps at New Chiswick Pool on both the Saturday and Sunday, and free squash coaching at Brentford Leisure centre on the Friday at 2-5.
Jacques Mutevelian at Osterley Sport Centre has organised a family fun day with plenty of rolling and bouncing for the whole family, and some challenges for the brave to take part in too. Activities includes inflatable games, roller skating, Nintento Wii games and Judo.
Jacques will be opening access to the athletic track and the aim is to complete 2012 complete laps of the track over the weekend. Everyone can take part in this fun challenge.
If you fancy a bounce but too old to jump the castle, then a sumo suit fight may score to be the highlight of your weekend.
For the competitive spirits there are a number of sport and fitness challenges being held at the leisure centres. Heston Pool, New Chiswick Pool and newly refurbished Isleworth Leisure Centre and Library will be holding Triathlon competitions with the chance of winning prizes. Gill Wrightson at Heston Pool has put thrown open the challenge: “Can you beat the lifeguard? Our lifeguard has put himself on the line this time, ready to be defeated!”
Chris Jones, general manager at Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre said, “For anyone that is new to gym and exercise classes we have a variety of taster sessions that are running across all six Hounslow Centres. The classes are suitable for beginners and are supervised under guidance of our trained coaches.
“Whether, the new dance exercise Zumba, Body Pump, indoor cycling or an introduction to Boot camp take your fancy – your opportunity has arrived!”
