TRAIN PERFORMANCE GETTING BETTER BUT SOUTH WEST STILL THE WORST

The latest official figures published recently show an improvement from the dismal performance of local train services at the end of last year with Silver Link performing relatively well but South West Trains still bottom of the punctuality league.

As a result of the failure to meet the terms of its franchise South West has been fined over £10 million pounds so far this year, more than any other network

The SRA did praise South West Trains for a "significant improvement" in train and platform information.

SRA Chief Operating Officer, Nick Newton said: "We have a massive challenge to stabilise and increase performance levels across the network. The industry must continue to commit itself to improving performance for passengers."

South West Trains will be raising fares between 2.5% and 3.5% on January 4th.
