Community asked to help recognise inspirational teachers
Local parents, students, teaching staff and members of the community are being urged to help recognise local unsung heroes by nominating them for a Teaching Award.
Anyone can nominate an inspirational head teacher, teacher, teaching assistant or governor for one of the prestigious Teaching Awards online at www.teachingawards.com before 1 March 2007.
Cllr Robert Kinghorn, said “I know we have many outstanding professionals working in the borough’s schools and I implore those who are taught by, or work with, them to take just a few minutes and nominate them for one of these prestigious awards.
“Most, if not all, of us had at least one teacher who helped encourage us at school and left an impression that still lives with us today. There are many teachers across Hounslow who continue to do the same for another generation, and I hope those they inspire will want to say ‘thank you’.
“We need to recognise the contribution of these individuals who do so much, not just for those they teach and inspire, but for the whole community.”
All those who take part will be entered into a free prize draw with the chance to win one of ten prizes - £1,000 to spend on books for their nominated school, courtesy of Oxford University Press.
Finalists and winners from the region will be announced at the 2007 London Teaching Awards ceremony on Wednesday 13 June at Café Royal, London.
There are 12 categories including the Teaching Award for Urban Leadership in London which rewards inner city leaders who promote a clear and compelling vision and values for the school, creating enthusiasm for learning. The other 11 awards cover primary, secondary heads and teachers, as well as governors, teaching assistants and the new school award for 2007, the DfES Teaching Award for Sustainable Schools.
