Awards celebrate the achievements of the borough's youth

The nominations have been announced for the third annual Hounslow Youth Service Awards to celebrate the achievements of young people in the borough.

More than 50 projects and young people have been nominated for an award in the 10 categories, which include outstanding contribution to your community sponsored by Metropolitan Police and greatest sporting achievement sponsored by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.

Liz Hassock, Principal Youth Officer said "Those of us who are lucky enough to work with them already have a great deal of pride in Hounslow’s young people. It is encouraging to see so many nominated for the contribution they make to the borough.

“These awards show what the hard work and dedication of the young people, volunteers and youth service staff can achieve, and everyone in the borough should be proud of them and the difference they make.”

This year‘s event, which young people themselves have helped organise, takes place on Wednesday 6th December and includes amongst the project and individuals nominated:

a group who laid pipes on a farm in Devon for their Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award;
the Youth Council for their work in tackling negative stereotypes of young people locally and across Greater London; individual young people who have turned their behaviour around and moved away from being at risk of offending; and football teams set up by young people as a diversion from anti-social behaviour

As well as the presentation of Awards on the evening, there will also be a number of performances by some of Hounslow’s talented young people.
