A Primary Concern

School application process begins again this week

The application process will begin for children due to start primary school in the coming year on Monday 7th December.

If your child was born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006 s/he is entitled to a full-time place in a reception class from September 2010.

The Starting School in Hounslow brochure gives parents and carers full information on how to apply for a place at a primary school, and sets out the criteria for admission to the borough’s primary schools.

There are two groups of primary schools in Hounslow, community and voluntary aided (church) schools. Most of the primary schools are all-through primary schools, catering for children from age 3 to age 11 (there are also separate infant and junior schools).

You can apply for admission to any primary school, but you should bear in mind the priority order for admission to each school. For each community school priority is given to children who live in the school’s Priority Admission Area (PAA). If you do not know which school is the Priority Admission Area school for your address, phone the school admissions team.

For applications to Hounslow schools, your application form - available from any Hounslow primary school, Email: admissions@hounslow.gov.uk or Tel: 020 8583 2721/2711 - must arrive in the school which is your first preference by Tuesday 9 February 2010 or to School Admissions, Children’s Services & Lifelong Learning, Civic Centre, Lampton Road, Hounslow TW3 4DN by Friday 12 February 2010 (other boroughs closing dates differ).

Applications received after these dates will be treated as late and will only be considered after places have been allocated to families who applied on time. If your application is late you are severely limiting your chances of gaining a place at one of your preferred schools.

To try and make efficiency savings please try and apply online as this will help us reduce administration costs. Further details are available on the online admissions webpage. Please note, if applying online do not submit proof of address or a paper application form. Addresses will be checked for proof of residence. You may be contacted if further proof is required.
Please note it is a criminal offence to give a false address on an application. If both an online application and a form are submitted, only the last submitted by the closing date will be considered.

If applying to voluntary aided (church) schools you are still required to complete and return directly to the relevant schools by the closing date of 12 February 2010, a supplementary information form and if applicable a religious or priest’s reference form. These are available from the relevant schools.

You can apply to schools outside Hounslow. To do this ask for a form at your preferred school outside Hounslow Borough and return it to the school or to the local education authority in which the school is situated, according to the instructions on the form.

Applying to schools outside Hounslow will not prevent you also applying for Hounslow schools on the Hounslow application form. You are advised to apply for Hounslow schools even if you prefer a school outside the borough, in case your application to the school outside the borough is not successful.

The availability of the online system for applications to other boroughs’ schools will be different and you may be required to provide proof of address. Please contact the relevant borough directly or visit their website for details.
