Make a New Plan Stan, Hop on the Bus Gus

50 ways to improve Chiswick High Road by Stamford Brook

Local residents and public transport users are being asked for their views on plans to improve Chiswick High Road at Stamford Brook.

All residences and businesses on the High Road between Chiswick Lane and Goldhawk Road, as well as and surrounding streets, have been sent a consultation brochure outlining 50 proposed improvements.

The scheme will be funded by Transport for London, and has been designed to improve conditions for buses, general traffic, cyclists and pedestrians.

Key proposed changes include:

  • Re-phasing of the traffic signals at the Chiswick Lane junction
  • Removal of all the traffic signals at the Ennismore Road junction
  • New traffic signals at the Stamford Brook Bus Depot
  • Integration of the two separate westbound bus lanes into a single lane operating Monday-Sunday
  • Increasing the hours of operation of the eastbound bus lane to Monday-Sunday, 7am-7pm
  • Extension of the double yellow lines into the side roads for improved driver and pedestrian visibility
  • Improvements to cycling facilities, with wider and more continuous cycle lanes and advanced cycle stop-lines; and
  • Improvements to pedestrian facilities including a new controlled crossing near the Bus Depot.

A presentation on the proposals will be made at this week's Chiswick Area Committee meeting (21 September).  The deadline for responses is 7th October, and a decision is expected in early November.  If approved, work will start in the New Year.
