Greenford Flyover to Close Over Christmas Holidays
Stretch of the A40 to be shut for essential maintenance
Greenford Flyover is to be closed for 9 days during the Christmas Holiday period for essential maintenance Transport for London (TfL) have announced.
The works are programmed to begin at 10:00pm on Christmas Eve with the aim of completion by 5:00am on Thursday 3 January.
The essential bridge maintenance works to the A40 Greenford Roundabout Flyover will involve replacing expansion joints across the flyover and carrying out resurfacing works around the new joints.
Tfl say engineers will be working around the clock during this period to get these works completed as quickly as possible. By working throughout the festive period, when traffic levels are 30 per cent lower, TfL can significantly reduce the disruption these works could have caused were they to be carried out at a different time.
Due to the nature of the works, it will be necessary to fully close the flyover throughout these works. However traffic will be diverted via the roundabout underneath the flyover and a wider diversion route for traffic wishing to access the A406 North Circular Road. TfL will be working to minimise any disruption and the London Streets Traffic Control Centre will keep all road users moving throughout these works.
Dana Skelley, Director of Roads at TfL said: “Coordinating vital repairs so they are carried out in the least disruptive way is a key part of our ongoing work to maintain and invest in hundreds of road structures across London. By planning these essential works to occur during school holidays and when many people choose to stay at home during the Christmas and New Year break, we can minimise the number of road users impacted.”
