Be
Green with your Garden Waste
Free Home Composters available
plus details of how to order Garden Waste sacks
Green-fingered
gardeners who made the most of the good weather to perk up their gardens
have been given a helping hand by Hounslow Council, which is offering
free home composters and kitchen bins to its residents.
Pictured right is keen gardener Patti Horsnell, of 42 Orchard Road, Brentford, handing over a bag of garden waste to April Holman and Chris Patrick from ECT, the Councils garden waste collection contractors.
Alternatively, residents with smaller gardens that may not be able to accommodate a composter, or people who generate more garden waste than can be composted at home, can use the Councils popular green garden waste collection service, which kicked off in mid-May and runs until mid-November.
Grass cuttings,
leaves, twigs, hedge trimmings, weeds, garden prunings, plants &
flowers will all be collected in the special garden waste bags, which
are made of corn starch, on the same day as the Green Box collection.
As they are biodegradable and can be composted along with the garden
waste, Hounslows Recycling Team is urging residents not to use the
bags for stones, gravel, soil, rubble, food waste or general rubbish.
* To use the scheme, garden waste must be in sacks purchased in
multiples of five from Hounslows collection contractors ECT. The sacks,
which cost £2.50 for five, can be ordered at www.ectrecycling.co.uk/hounslowgardenwaste
or by calling 020 8813 3191. Payment can be made by credit/debit card
or cheque, and the bags will be delivered by post.
* Residents who would like to take advantage of the offer of a free home composter and kitchen bin, please contact Hounslow Council on 020 8583 5060 or email the Recycling Team at recycling@hounslow.gov.uk.
