Survey by Orchard's of London shows surprising priorities for homeowners
Orchards of London, boutique estate agents serving Ealing, Acton and Chiswick, have recently conducted a survey looking into the features and expectations that potential home owners now want in their “Dream” home.
They organise surveys as a way to get data on trends and expectations in the UK and London housing market. A surprising 81% of people surveyed said that they now regarded a home office as a necessity and 48% said that a home cinema/media room was a 'must have' part of a house compared to 5 years ago. This was followed by home gym at 39%, a wine cellar at 7% and a sauna at 6%
Over half those surveyed would want three of more bathrooms in their dream home and for 60% the top feature they wanted was a jacuzzi.
Paul Connolly, Managing Director of Orchards of London said, "As an agent it is important to know not only your area well, but to understand the needs and desires of your customers."
The questions ranged from the mundane, such as “Would a home-office be a necessity?” to the more fanciful, for example “What one thing would you want in your dream bathroom?” where the options were a Jacuzzi Bath, Plasma TV’s built into the wall or a wet room.
“ Trends and expectations are constantly evolving, so it is important to regularly assess the market. Here we can spot that home-movers are very keen on energy efficient solutions as well as home networking systems such as wireless broadband. A few years ago, people would have been more interested in having under-floor heating systems as well as fitted wine cooler!”
