Local MP Tackles TfL Again On Piccadilly Line

Mary Macleod wants a trial stop at Turnham Green until December

Local MP Mary Macleod has written to the Managing Director of Transport for London, Mike Brown, to ask him to stop Piccadilly line trains at Turnham Green whilst Gloucester Road station is closed.

However it appears that TfL has not responded positively to her request although she is awaiting a direct reply to her letter.

Gloucester Road tube station is undergoing repairs to its lifts until mid-December. During this time, it will not be served by the Piccadilly line at all. From Saturday 24th May until mid-December, Piccadilly line trains will not stop at Gloucester Road due to lift works. District and Circle line trains stop as normal.

Mary said: “Piccadilly line trains won’t serve Gloucester Road until the end of the year, so I think this is a great opportunity for TfL to trial stopping at Turnham Green in preparation for the real thing when the upgrade has been completed. I hope Mr Brown will take my suggestion seriously as this would be a great step forward for local transport links.”

Piccadilly Line trains currently stop at Turnham Green Station from 10.30pm to 6.50am.

In December last year, Mary and local residents' groups succeeded in getting a commitment from the Mayor of London to stop Piccadilly line trains at Turnham Green tube station throughout the day. This will happen as soon as the Piccadilly line upgrade takes place but this could take years.

Since the announcement that the Turnham Green day 'stop' would not take place until after the Piccadilly Line upgrade, she has suggested a number of times that TfL should consider interim measures.

However there were reports on Friday that TfL had refused her request. Mary said that she was awaiting a direct response from managing director Mike Brown and was " disappointed" but would continue to campaign to get the best transport links for local people.

Nigel Holness, operations director for the Piccadilly line, said: "As we announced in January we'll be stopping Piccadilly lines trains at Turnham Green all day once the line is modernised and we have new trains and more of them - there are no plans to stop here before that time.

"In the meantime our customers at Turnham Green station will start to experience new District line trains and the frequency will increase further from 2018.

"We have also introduced a more frequent service for Piccadilly line customers on weekday evenings and Saturdays.”
