More than fifty businesses offer vacancies, training and advice
The West London Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair, at West Thames College, was a resounding success with large crowds of people seeking work or apprenticeships attending.
The event, organised by local MP Mary Macleod, saw local businesses with current work or training vacancies exhibit to over a thousand people.
Mary commented, “Today we have seen hundreds of local people come to the Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair and were involved in this superb opportunity to find work. We worked in partnership with West Thames College, Jobcentre Plus and BAA, the sponsor, to create an event that gave a real chance to those seeking work or training. Today was about helping people change their lives for the future”.
The event was attended by Employment Minister, Rt Hon Chris Grayling MP, who met with delegates, “Events such as these are a really good way for people to see what opportunities there are out there and for employers to see what skills are available locally. It is fantastic to see this event so full and busy. The Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair will go a long way to help the local economy and boost the labour market that bit more.”
As well as businesses exhibiting there were also a number of seminars and workshops including a CV healthcheck run by Barclays, interview techniques run by RBS and Pernod Ricard, entrepreneurship seminar and an apprenticeships workshop led by West Thames College.
Principal of West Thames College, Marjorie Semple commented, “I’m sure that everyone will agree, the West London Jobs and Apprenticeships Fair has been a resounding success. It has been fantastic to work together in partnership with Mary Macleod MP, Jobcentre Plus and BAA to make this important and much needed event happen. If today’s event has helped local people to find work, then we are proud to have been part of it.”
