A pupil at Latymer Upper School has been selected for the UK team competing at the International Biology Olympiad against students from over 60 countries.

Sixth former, Matilda, will be travelling to the United Arab Emirates this July to take part in the competition. She is the only female student selected to be in the team of 4 going to the international competition from the 13,000 students who took part in the Olympiad earlier this year.

Matilda was selected after attending an event at Warwick University for the finalists who scored highest on this year’s British Biology Olympiad. The students were examined at Warwick on bioscience skills including micro pipetting and small invertebrate dissection. She’ll be tackling a series of practical tasks and written exams.

“I am so pleased for Matilda, it's a fantastic opportunity for her to explore Biology well beyond the scope of the A level specification and to develop her practical skills. She is the first Latymerian ever to be selected for the international event. We are incredibly proud and will continue to support and encourage her,” said Ms Hansford, Head of Biology at Latymer Upper School.
