Strictly the Most Glamorous Night of the Year

Star guest Harry Judd of McFly presents prize to winners of school dance competition

Strictly Latymer Dance Competition i Hammersmith

It was the most glamorous night of the year at Hammersmith's Latymer Upper School, with celebrity guest Harry Judd of McFly seeing ten Sixth Form couples taking to the dance floor to compete in the final round of this year's Strictly Latymer.

The exciting show was opened by the Latymettes, Latymer’s very own cheerleading dance team before the competing couples took to the stage.

The contest took place over two evenings, with the opening night on Thursday, expertly hosted by Mr Noakes and Sixth Former Eve Delaney and judged by Mrs Markowska, Miss Garforth, Mr Holmes and Mr Lomon.

The dances were as follows:

Linnea and Jack – Cha Cha
Vasia and Jonathan – Foxtrot
Myria and Mungo – Tango
Lucy and Nico – Salsa
Joana and Kaine – Jive
Jade and Moses – Samba
Annabel and Alexis – Rumba

Lara and Henry – Charleston
Anna and Oscar – Mambo
Amelia and James – West Coast Swing

Once all the couples had danced, two couples, Lucy and Nico and Annabel and Alexis were in the lead and in the dance-off stage. While the audience made their decision and texted in, the Zumba, Hip Hop and Teachers performed, while Lucy and Nico won over the audience on the first night with their Salsa.

The Friday night saw the first top score of 10 awarded to three of the couples, while Mr Edwards took over from Mrs Markowska at the judges table. With a three-way tie between Joana and Kaine, Annabel and Alexi and Anna and Oscar, Head Judge, Mr Holmes, selected Joana and Kaine and Anna and Oscar for the dance-off.

Congratulations went to Anna and Oscar who won the audience vote and were presented the Strictly Latymer 2014 trophy by Harry, who as well as drumming with McFly was the winner of TV's Strictly Come Dancing in 2011.

Head of Dance, Miss Desmons says: " I am extremely proud of the pupils' performance, their dedication and hard work was evident to all. A big thank you to Maria and all the team behind Strictly, and of course to Harry Judd for presenting the trophy. Overall, a roaring success and my favourite Strictly Latymer to date!"

Strictly Latymer is held every year in aid of Charity, and this year it supported Body & Soul, a pioneering UK charity dedicated to transforming the lives of children, teenagers and families living with, or affected by HIV.

It also raised funds for our New Sports Centre and Latymer's Uganda charity-sponsoring/paying for eight children from M-Lisada orphanage in Kampala to go to school.
