Latymer Matches Last Year's A Level Success

Departing headmaster Peter Winter going out on a high

Latymer Upper School students are celebrating another record year of outstanding results at A-Level, matching last year’s all-time high and with record numbers taking four or more full A-Levels.

As last year, 94% of results were at A*, A or B grades with 73% of all papers sat by this larger than average year group (176 students) graded at A* or A.

Nearly half of the entire cohort achieved a clean sweep of A*- A results. This year, a larger number of students than ever took four full A-Levels or more, and achieved a record average of over 461 UCAS points per student.

Head, Peter Winter, who steps down this year after ten years at the helm, said: “I am thrilled for our students. They have been a wonderfully talented year group and they have fully embraced the challenge of our new linear approach to examinations (taking all AS and A2 exams in the U6), whereby we have sought to avoid constantly preparing students for the next test and to offer them a broad-ranging education beyond the sometimes constraining limits of the A-Level specifications."

He added that the results were encouraging in light of the Government’s instruction to Exam Boards to be sparing with top grades to counter any accusation of grade inflation and that he had no doubt that his successor, David Goodhew, will lead Latymer to even greater heights in the future.

Deputy Head Boy Tim achieved 4*’s and has been accepted as a choral scholar at Magdalen College Oxford.

Marissa Davison – Marissa achieved 3A’s and will read Music at Manchester

Flo achieved 4 A*’s and is heading to UCL to read History

Charlie Williams hugs his proud mum after being accepted at Warwick to study Automotive Engineering

Simon and Iona – Simon Davis achieved 4 A*’s and Iona Blakeney achieved 3A*’s and 2A’s, both are going on a Gap Year.
