Tim Wellburn, from Strand on the Green, has been appointed as a new trustee at Kew Bridge Steam Museum, the seventh of an existing board of six. A Chiswick resident since 1989, he currently works at the Department for Transport in railways policy, and lives within sight of the Kew Bridge Steam Museum.

Married with two children, he spent the first part of his career managing commercial airfreight logistics, including 5 years based in Singapore and Hong Kong, giving both his children exotic birthplaces! He gained an MBA and Diploma in Marketing at Cranfield in 1992, and joined the Department for Transport.

Tim Wellburn said; "I've long been fascinated by Britain's industrial heritage. Kew Bridge Steam Museum is one of London's hidden treasures, the oldest waterworks in the world containing its original steam pumping engines, huge engines which present a magnificent sight and sound working as they did 150 years ago.

"I first got involved when I discovered what a key part volunteers play in supporting the museum. I rashly offered to do anything and found myself helping to restore Kew's unique and huge 'Bull Engine', which we hope will soon be back in steam, for the first time in over 60 years.

"I'm honoured to have been elected as a trustee, helping to safeguard the museum for future generations. It's an extraordinary part of our heritage which both preserves and brings to life these great engines and provides a unique insight into the development of London's water supply, compulsive viewing as we head into the first drought of the 21st Century!"
