Public Meeting for Kew Bridge Development

Public Meeting for Kew Bridge Development

Chance to question developers and planning officers

Residents will be able to have their say on the controversial development proposed for the 'Scottish Widows' site by Kew Bridge.

Developers St George revealed their plans last year. They proposed 232 housing units, offices and retail units. The original plans met with unpopularity from local residents, conservation groups and politicians who claimed that the plans were too dense and not in keeping with the historic riverside character of the area.

Because the original plans were not considered by Councillors within the eight-week time limit, St George appealed to the Sec. of State's office. However they also submitted revised plans which took into account some of the objections raised.

The amended plans show a reduction in height of the buildings and an increase in the amount of open space by the river, including access to a riverside walk.

Since the original plans were submitted, the area has been designated a Conservation Area, which is likely to impact on the design of the buildings. Brentford Community Council Chair Andrew Dakers has called for a world-class architect to lead the design, expressing concerns about the area's ability to absorb such a large development.

Developers St George have been invited to the meeting and are expected to attend. There will be a chance to question planners on the proposals and a chance to view the detailed plans.
