HACAN Backs MP's Call for End to Night Flights
Who needs an alarm clock when you have Heathrow?
Campaign group HACAN has backed the call by Brentford and Isleworth MP Mary Macleod for an end to night flights. At the end of last week she tweeted: “Woken up at 5am this morning by early flights into Heathrow. Why don't we just stop night flights?”
Next month the Government is expected to issue a consultation on night flights. At present 16 flights are permitted to land at Heathrow before 6am. But this agreement with the airlines comes to an end in Autumn next year.
HACAN will continue to campaign for a ban on flights before 6am. HACAN chair John Stewart said, “Night flights are hated. Many people don’t need an alarm clock. The first arrival at 4.30am wakes them up.”
Stewart added, “The economic case for night flights just does not stand up. It flies in the face of commonsense to suggest that the UK economy will fall apart if these 16 night flights were not allowed to land before 6am.”
