Rally Was A 'Clear Display of Feeling' On Heathrow

Mary Macleod says people must hold firm against airport expansion

Mary Macleod has described the turnout of people at the Heathrow Mega Rally as "fantastic" and said it was a "clear and vocal display of the strength of feeling against Heathrow expansion in west London."

Mary joined forces with Zac Goldsmith MP, the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, Justine Greening MP, Angie Bray MP and others at the ‘mega rally’ in Barnes to demonstrate the strength of feeling against possible expansion at Heathrow airport.

In October last year, the Government announced the Airports Commission, headed by Sir Howard Davies, to look at how to maintain the UK’s aviation capacity. Expansion of Heathrow is one option that is being assessed as part of this work.

Mayor Boris Johnson reiterated his view that viable commercial alternatives exist and that an integrated approach using air, rail and water would allow London to remain a vibrant commercial hub and ‘beat European competition’ without compromising the quality of people’s lives in West London.

Mary said; " The policy of this Government is for no further expansion at Heathrow. They have listened to the voices of local residents on this issue.

"No other city in the world subjects so many residents to this level of aircraft on a daily basis. We must hold firm on this- enough is enough. Let's continue to say No to a third, fourth or fifth runway at Heathrow!"
