Christmas Rubbish Collection Arrangement

Changes over the holiday period in London Borough of Ealing

Collection days for recycling and rubbish will change over the festive period. Meanwhile, residents are being reminded of the council’s free Christmas tree recycling service, and a new online competition.

Refuse and recycling collections will change from Christmas Day, returning to normal service on Monday, 12 January, as below:

The council's re-use and recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. Normal opening hours (8am–4pm) apply on all other days.  These centres are located at Stirling Road, Acton, and Greenford Road, Greenford.

Residents are also being reminded about the range of free services available to help with recycling over this busy period.

To help people dispose of real Christmas trees, a free collection service will be provided from Monday 29 December until Friday 30 January. Tree collections will follow the usual garden waste collection schedule. Tree trunks must not exceed 20cm in diameter and any trees taller than 6ft will need to be cut in two. Alternatively, you can recycle real Christmas trees at some of the borough’s parks and open spaces this January. A full list of these locations and the collection schedule will be available on the council website.

The interactive website www.recyclemystuff.org.uk has been given a festive makeover to help make recycling easier this Christmas. It features a range of recyclable items in a virtual home, room by room.

A competition is running until Wednesday, 31 December to encourage viewers to recycle more.  Three Love 2 Shop vouchers will be awarded to winners drawn at random. Visit www.recyclemystuff.org.uk for competition details.

Residents are also reminded to recycle any food that cannot be reused in their food bin as well as recycling as much festive related waste as possible.

Waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) such as old or broken toasters, kettles, laptops, plugs, phones, computer parts and leads can also be recycled at one of the WEEE banks across the borough or at the re-use and recycling centres.
