By-election called in Ravenscourt Park Ward

Post made vacant by the death of Cllr. Caroline Donald

Following the death of Councillor Caroline Donald a by-election will take place on Thursday 28th July in the Ravenscourt Park Ward of Hammersmith & Fulham. Cllr Donald died on the 16th June at Charing Cross Hospital, aged 47.

A service of thanksgiving took place on Monday 27 June at St. Peter's Church on Black Lion Lane, Hammersmith.

The Mayor of Hammersmith & Fulham, Councillor Charlie Treloggan, who attended the memorial service, said: "I was extremely saddened to hear about the death of Councillor Caroline Donald who represented people in the Ravenscourt Park Ward and also served on the council's Planning Committee."

The by-election was officially called last Thursday 23 June and nominations for the seat close at 12noon on Friday 1 July. New applications to vote by post or proxy must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm, Wednesday 20 July 2005.

In the local election of 2002 the seat was closely contested with a recount necessary. A small number of votes split the top six candidates and Cllr. Donald won one seat on behalf of the Conservatives with the other two seats in the ward going to Labour.
