Gunnersbury Park Celebrates Love Parks Week

Gunnersbury Park and Museum will mark Love Parks Week with a five-day programme of activities celebrating the heritage, wildlife and natural beauty of one of West London’s most historic green spaces. Running from 29 July to 2 August, the event forms part of the park’s centenary year, commemorating 100 years since Gunnersbury first opened to the public in 1926.

The week aims to highlight the park’s past, present and future, inviting visitors to explore its landscape, learn about its history and enjoy hands-on creative and nature-based activities. Generations of local residents have used Gunnersbury Park since its opening, and Love Parks Week offers a chance to rediscover the estate’s most iconic features.

Guided historic tours will take visitors through the grounds, including the Temple, the Orangery and the Japanese Garden, tracing the site’s evolution from a private country estate to the public park it is today. Nature enthusiasts can join specialist wildlife experiences, including a birdwatching tour led by Senan from the RSPB and a tree walk with local expert John, exploring the park’s diverse collection of species and their role in the landscape.

Creative visitors can take part in Plein Air Art Workshops, encouraging artists of all abilities to capture the colours, light and atmosphere of the park directly from life. Families will be able to enjoy daily nature-inspired crafts in the park gazebo, take part in a Duck Food Packaging Competition promoting wildlife-friendly feeding, and tackle the Wildlife Spotters’ Challenge, searching for birds and bugs to earn points and compare scores on the event leaderboard.

A special Relaxed Session on Monday 27 July will offer adapted activities for children and young people with additional needs, ensuring the celebrations are accessible to all.

Love Parks Week will conclude on Sunday 2 August with the return of Middlesex Pride, a vibrant, family-friendly celebration of the borough’s LGBTQIA+ communities. Run by the community-led Middlesex Pride team, the event provides a welcoming space for people to come together, connect and celebrate.

The programme reflects the park’s centenary and the contributions of the organisations, volunteers and community groups who help make Gunnersbury Park a valued local resource. Visitors of all ages are invited to join the celebrations and discover why the park continues to be cherished a century after it first opened.

Advance booking is required for all Love Parks Week events, with the exception of Children's Crafts & Wildlife Spotters' Trail and Middlesex Pride, which are drop-in activities. All booking is done via Eventbrite: Gunnersbury Park & Museum
