Scrubs Lane Fire: Firefighters on Scene thoughout the Evening
Fire at metals recycling plant dominate West London skyline
London Fire Brigade says that eight fire engines and around 40 firefighters have been fighting the huge blaze in a metal recycling yard on Scrubs Lane in Willesden, and are likely to remain on the scene throughout this evening.
Part of the yard containing around 3,000 tonnes of scrap metal is alight.
Station Manager Pushminder Vagarwal who is at the scene said: “Our fire crews are working really hard to get this fire under control but it’s likely that we’ll be here for some time. There is a lot of smoke from the fire and we would advise any residents living nearby to keep their doors and windows closed.”
The Brigade was called at 2.48pm. Fire crews from New Malden, Willesden, Park Royal, Chelsea, Hammersmith, Paddington and Bethnal Green fire stations are tackling the blaze. The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
The fire caused a huge plume of smoke to appear in the sky o ver West London this afternooon, 24th April). The blaze could be clearly seen from Hammersmith, Shepherd's Bush and Chiswick.
London Fire Brigade initially reported that a large amount of metal recycling waste in a storage yard was alight and that 30 firefighters were at the scene along with eight fire engines.

There have been no reports of any injuries at this point.
