New Labour in Disguise or Right Wing Tories?

Opposition attack Conservative Council budget

Ealing Council's Tory budget has come under fire as being 'New Labour in disguise'.

The 1.9 per cent increase - the lowest rise in 10 years - was agreed on Wednesday despite objections from the Liberal Democrat and Labour Party chiefs.

Opposition criticised the budget as 'New Labour in disguise' but the Tory Council fought back with their own criticism of the previous council's management and instead talked about the investment they would be making in the local area.

In response to Labour's comments about the budget, Leader of the Council, Jason Stacey, told Ealing Today:

"The comments from the Labour opposition really amused me. With one speaker I was 'New Labour', whilst another accused me of being a right wing Tory with a mask that would end up slipping. They were all over the place and what the Labour opposition seemed to fail to grasp was that the decisions of the budget effectively act upon what residents are telling us they want to see improved. Whilst Labour want to keep labelling things as ideological, this Conservative budget is about sensible financial management and getting on with what we were elected to do."
