Ealing Police Officer In Court For Sending 'Malicious Communications'

Pleads guilty and fined over messages send on text and social media

A police officer attached to Ealing borough has been found guilty of sending malicious communications and fined by a court.

PC Matthew Holloway, 27, was arrested on 25 June 2015, for harassment. The victim later withdrew the statement, but the content of PC Holloway's text and social media communications was considered threatening and the Crown Prosecution Service authorised the charge against him.

On 23 November 2015, PC Holloway was charged with malicious communications and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 19 January where he pleaded not guilty.

At his court appearance at Southwark Crown Court yesterday, Holloway pleaded guilty to malicious communications.

The officer was given a three-year conditional discharge, and made to pay £1,200 costs and £500 compensation.

Now that the criminal investigation has been concluded the local misconduct process will commence.

The officer remains on restricted duties.
