Public views sought to help make London safer

Londoners can help shape the Metropolitan Police's priorities and strategies up to 2010 by registering their concerns online from today.

Members of the public, community groups and other interested organisations are urged to get involved in the annual consultation because everyone has a stake in making London safer.

The aim of the survey is to ensure that those who live, work and study in London get what they want from their police force. The consultation will last until this July and the views provided will feed directly into planning for the policing priorities in 2007/2008 and the 2007/10 policing strategy.

There will be an opportunity to meet Sir Ian Blair and MPA Chair Len Duvall at New Scotland Yard for ten participants drawn at random. They will be able to put views directly to the Commissioner and Mr Duvall and enjoy a short tour of the building.

The consultation can be found on the Consulting London section of the Met's homepage www.met.police.uk. A paper version is available by calling 0207 230 4755 .

The MPS website also features the results from previous consultation exercises and responses from senior officers addressing the concerns of consultees.

Crimes can also be reported online, through www.online.police.uk. This is only for non-urgent crimes, where an immediate police response is not required.
