Mayor announces additional personnel to police local trains and stations

Boris Johnson has announced 50 more British Transport Police to patrol local trains and stations including Chiswick, Kew Bridge, Brentford, Acton Mainline
and Ealing Broadway.

The Mayor was joined by London’s Transport Commissioner, Peter Hendy, and the British Transport Police (BTP) Chief Constable, Ian Johnston, as he unveiled the plans yesterday, 6th January.

The teams of officers, to be rolled out over the first few months of 2009, will provide visible reassurance, particularly after dark, as well as community engagement at more than 100 stations and routes in London’s outer boroughs.

They will also work closely with the existing BTP neighbourhood policing teams on the London Underground and Overground services as well the TfL funded Metropolitan Police Service Safer Transport Teams, Transport Operational Command Unit (TOCU) and local borough Safer Neighbourhood policing teams.

British Transport Police Chief Constable Ian Johnston said, "These new teams, which will all be located at busy interchanges and stations, mean BTP have a Neighbourhood Policing team in every London borough. Passengers, rail staff, shopkeepers and everyone who works on and around stations now served by these teams will have dedicated recognisable police officers and PCSOs who can address their concerns and needs.

The 50 BTP officers will form seven teams covering railway stations including:

Acton Mainline
Ealing Broadway (interchange with TfL services)
West Ealing
Barnes Bridge
Chiswick
Kew Bridge
Brentford
Syon Lane
Isleworth
Hounslow
