Hounslow Community Fair showcases opportunities on 22 September
From the London 2012 Olympics to community initiatives, volunteering has become increasingly popular this summer, and borough residents interested in taking up the challenge can find out more about local volunteering opportunities at Hounslow Community Fair on 22 September.
Cllr Sachin Gupta, Hounslow’s cabinet member for communities, said:“Volunteering gives you the satisfaction of helping an organisation or individual in your community. It's a good way of building your self-confidence, boosting your CV, and is also a great way to meet other people.
“Volunteers played a huge part in making the London 2012 Games such a success, with many first-time volunteers taking part as ‘Games makers’. I hope that, as well as greater interest and involvement in sport, the Games will provide a legacy around volunteering, with more people giving up their time to give something back to their community.
“I would encourage anyone interested in finding out more about volunteering opportunities to come to the Hounslow Community Fair, as many community and voluntary organisations from across the borough will be there.
“Volunteering is easy, flexible and very worthwhile, so come along and find out how you can make a difference!”
Over two-thirds of the stalls at the Community Fair will be representing community and voluntary organisations from across the borough, with volunteers on hand to explain what they do and how residents can get involved.
The Hounslow Community Fair will take place from 11am to 5pm in Lampton Park, Lampton Road, Hounslow, on Saturday 22 September. There will be fantastic activities for children and young people plus music, arts and dance and food reflecting our diverse communities.
Residents can also quiz the Leader of the Council and colleagues from the police and health services, as well as getting information on how the council and its partners aim to improve the quality of life in the borough. Questions should be emailed to communications@hounslow.gov.uk.
The council will be launching a special commemorative booklet featuring photographs from our Summer of Celebration at the event. All proceeds from the booklet, which costs just 50p, will go to the Alzheimer’s Society Hounslow.
