LBH eager to improve services for children

Council seeks to engage local groups in consultation excercise

Views are being sought from groups representing children for a consultation that could lead to significant improvements to services in Hounslow.

The Children and Young People’s Plan is a public document that will drive how services are managed in future. The plan is part of the Council’s response to the green paper “Every Child Matters” and subsequent Children Act 2004 and will act as a catalyst for change across this borough.

To help improve services, the Council are seeking the views of groups and organisations that work with, or represent the interests of children in some capacity.

Specifically, the Council is keen to learn how its services and those offered by its partners in health, the police or voluntary sector could be made more effective to children.

For example:
What services work particularly well?
Are there services that are not as effective as they could be?
Are there services that could be joined-up to become more effective?

John Bolt is Hounslow Council’s Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning and is leading this research. He said: “Children’s Services in Hounslow have been recognised by inspectors as being very effective. However we are always trying to improve and getting the views of people across the borough is an important part of that process.

“We are seeking views from groups who work with children who can highlight to us where services could be made better.

“If there are specific examples of where children have had difficulty accessing services for whatever reason we would welcome the opportunity to learn more.”

All responses will be welcomed and appreciated however, the Council are not able to send a response to everyone. More information on the progress of this project will be available on the Council’s website www.hounslow.gov.uk

A series of consultation events are being planned. If groups are interested in having representation at them, please contact John Bolt.
