Local NCT Volunteer Wins National Award

House of Lords event for Willemijn Bando

Willemijn Bando from NCT Chiswick & Hammersmith Branch has been named joint winner of the Fundraising Success of the Year NCT Stars Awards.

The charity, the UK's largest for parents, held its awards ceremony at the House of Lords last Wednesday ( October 26th) where she received the award.

Chiswick & Hammersmith Branch raised over £6,000 this year, to further NCT’s services for parents and parents-to-be across the UK. Willemijn organised several events including a Christmas party entertaining nearly 200 local children, a Nearly New Sale which 361 parents attended and a successful Cheeky Monkey Tea Party. Willemijn has worked tirelessly to interest local businesses and raise vital funds for the charity.

Willemijn said: “I am thrilled and honoured to have won this award. I was so excited to have been shortlisted, and looking at the people attending the ceremony it struck me that all nominees are amazing people. All those awesome mums are just that – just mums who decided to spend some time and make an effort for new parents locally. It was inspiring to feel the sense of community. It’s truly awesome what people can achieve once they set their minds to it. Every volunteer, no matter how big or small their role, is a Star.”

NCT Stars Awards, sponsored by Pampers, attracted a high volume of nominations from across the country, with six different categories representing the range of different roles volunteers take on for the charity.

NCT has over 10,000 volunteers who give their time, energy and skills in more than 300 branches through a wide range of roles: providing support for parents, co-ordinating branch activities, fundraising, editing newsletters and much more.
