Drivers working for Abellio resume industrial action

Another round of bus strikes by drivers employed by Abellio is continuing through January.
The dispute over pay which saw 13 ten days of disruption at the end of last year carries on for eight days in January.
The remain strike days will take place on 19, 25 and 26 January.
The routes affected are mainly in south west and west London. The bus drivers are based at garages in Battersea, Beddington, Hayes, Southall, Twickenham and Walworth. A list of the 59 routes likely to be affected is given in the table below.
In the first round of strikes, nearly 1,000 drivers participated but trade union Unite says its membership has soared since then and it expects as many as twice the number of drivers to take part in the action.
Abellio London says that it has offered a 12% pay increase with no conditions which would bring an experienced driver’s salary up to around £40,000.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said, "Abellio is content to hoard mountains of cash but has imposed a completely unacceptable pay offer on its drivers.
"It is disgraceful behaviour and our members are rightly furious. Unite always fights to defend and improve members' jobs, pay and conditions and Abellio's south and west London workforce have their union's unflinching support."
Unite threatened further strikes would be scheduled if the dispute was not resolved. A strike action by bus drivers at another company supplying services to London, Metroline, was called off after an improved pay offer was accepted.
Abellio London’s managing director Jon Eardley, said he was disappointed by strikes and claimed that the company offers one of the highest rates in London for new bus drivers.
He added, "We urge Unite to recognise Abellio's 12% pay deal and encourage their members to resume normal services.
"The Abellio pay deal comes with no conditions and sees bus driver basic pay rise by an average of £100 per week and over £5,000 per year, bringing an established bus driver's salary to around £40,000 per year."
Louise Cheeseman, Director of Buses at TfL, said, ‘‘We apologise for any disruption caused to Londoners. There still will be options for people to travel in west and south London, but other routes may be busier than normal. We're encouraging everyone in these areas to plan ahead, check before they travel and leave more time for their journeys, especially over the Christmas and New Year period. Our free TfL Go app and website are really easy ways to check your travel.’’
