Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre’s swimming pools have officially reopened, bringing relief to local residents after months of uncertainty. The pools welcomed swimmers back on Saturday 25 September—two days ahead of schedule—following a prolonged closure that had sparked concern over the future of the facility.
Hounslow Council confirmed the early reopening in a statement, thanking members for their patience and support. “It was fantastic to welcome members back to the water and see our community enjoying the pools once again,” the council said. A sold-out pool party is planned for Sunday 2 November to mark the occasion.
The pools were initially closed for essential maintenance and refurbishment, including upgrades to filtration systems and structural repairs. While the works were intended to be completed within a few months, delays in contractor scheduling and supply chain issues extended the closure well beyond initial estimates.
During the downtime, residents expressed growing concern that the closure might become permanent, citing a lack of clear timelines and fears that the site could be repurposed. Community groups and leisure centre users campaigned for transparency and reassurances, highlighting the importance of the pools for fitness, family recreation, and swim education.
Local swimmers and families have welcomed the reopening, with many returning for their first swim in over a year. “It’s a huge relief,” said one resident. “We were worried it might never reopen, and it’s such a vital space for our kids and older residents alike.”
The leisure centre offers swim lessons, aqua fitness classes, and accessible facilities for all ages.
Further out the council, which has declared the facility ‘not-fit for purpose’ is considering options for the building of a new leisure centre, preferably on the same site.
