Local MP joins with Gordon Brown to promote Child Trust Fund

Ann Keen welcomes £250 for every new baby

Ann Keen, MP for Brentford & Isleworth, has got together with the Chancellor to promote the Government's new Child Trust Fund.

She said, “From January 2005 all parents of new babies in Brentford and Isleworth will receive a voucher for at least £250 from the Labour Government to open a Child Trust Fund for their child, for example in their local bank or building society. The vouchers are being sent out to parents of children born after 1st September 2002.

Once the account is opened, families will be able to make additional payments into their child’s account year after year and when their child is seven, the Government will add another payment to the growing account. All money in the account will be tax free."

She said she wanted to make sure that every new parent in her constituency knows about the scheme and said she would be launching an information campaign to make sure nobody misses out.

Gordon Brown said, “The child trust fund will make a real difference to families in Brentford and Isleworth. Labour created the Child Trust Fund because we believe every child should have the best possible start in life. The Child Trust Fund will benefit every new born child, with an extra £250 for those who need it most. When children are eighteen they will have saving with interest built up over two decades.

I know that Ann Keen is working hard to build a better future for children in Brentford and Isleworth constituency. Together we will be working on an agenda for parents and children that makes work pay, provides quality childcare and gives children a stake in the future of the country.”
