The Arts Society Chiswick July Lecture: “A Picture a Day: Peggy Guggenheim and the Birth of Mid-Century Modernism” takes place at 8:00pm on Thursday 14 July at POSK on King Street. The talk will be given by Jacky Klein, art historian and lecturer, publisher, writer and broadcaster who specialises in modern and contemporary art.
This lecture explores how the New York heiress, Peggy Guggenheim - the poor little rich girl - came to play such a pivotal role in the making of mid-century Modernism. What prompted her to start collecting contemporary art in the 1930s? And what was the impact of her galleries in London and New York on the artists and the wider art world? Through collecting not only art but the artists themselves, her life was as radical as her collection.
Doors open at 7pm, as does the private bar. The lecture will start at 8pm and guests are very welcome - £10 on the door.
