Council Takes Carlton Road Centre To Cannes

Ealing’s Regeneration Team hoping to secure sales and private investment

Representatives from Ealing Council traveled to Cannes last week to hold discussions with property developers and investors at MIPIM. Amongst the Council owned properties up for development was the Carlton Road Day Centre, a facility for adults with mental health issues.

Southfield Ward Councillor Gary Malcolm said: "The Council has indicated it plans to close in the Day Centre in 2014 and it appears from the budget that this will occur."

The closure is subject to consultation however that doesn't instill confidence in Cllr Malcolm. "Any consultation seems to be nothing more than a smokescreen that will occur in the future. Liberal Democrats believe that day centres provide a lot of good services and this type of community space is used for lots of public meetings.

"Closing a lot of day centres and forcing people to go to a larger centre a long way away is not what I call sensible. There needs to be a proper debate."
