Hot Topic At The Bedford Park Hustings

Wheelie bins one of the issues concerning local people

The Election Hustings for Ealing Central & Acton Constituency, organised by the Bedford Park Residents’ Association, attracted 180 people from both inside and outside the suburb to St Michael & All Angels.

Former BBC correspondent and local resident Torin Douglas chaired the evening, keeping a tight rein on the seven candidates present, while skilfully allowing the debate to flow. Following the lively discussion, attendees then continued to enjoy the evening and extended discussions over drinks in the Gabriel Room.

Questions from the audience included the NHS, Foreign Policy and support for the Mediterranean boat refugees, the Economy, Mansion Tax and local infrastructure. One of the most hotly debated topics was the Council’s proposed introduction of wheelie bins. Many Bedford Park residents and members of the Residents’ Association have expressed concerns about the impact of the bins and the Association is planning a campaign to lobby against the introduction. Details will be announced in the coming week.
