British Olympic sailor talks 'Racing the America's Cup'

Olympic bronze-medallist and multiple world champion Chris Draper will be at the London Corinthians Sailing Club Clubhouse at 19:30 on the 15th January to talk about the experience of racing AC72 wing-sail catamarans in the America’s Cup.

The 2013 America's Cup saw a pulsating finish, and this is an opportunity to get a unique insight from a leading British sailor.

As helmsman on the Luna Rossa boat in the 34th America’s Cup Campaign in 2013, Chris became the first Britain to helm in the Louis Vuitton Final. Chris also helped Team New Zealand train in the build up to the final series of races in San Francisco and will be a major part of Luna Rossa’s 35th America’s Cup Team.

Chris’ career also includes Bronze in the 49er Class at the Athens Olympic Games (2004) and being twice World Champion (2003 and 2006) and Europ ean Champion three times (2004, 2005 and 2010). He won the Extreme Sailing Series in 2009, and finished second in the America's Cup World Series 2012-2013.

The talk will include photos of these amazing boats in action and will cover racing, boat handling, tactics and safety – something which has an altogether different meaning at 30-40kn of boat speed!

Guest and non-members welcome. Tickets £5 for non-members. See right-hand box for more details.
