Sam's Kitchen Chiswick Goes from Strength to Strength

The new Sam’s Kitchen, on the same site previously occupied by Sam’s Larder, is now fully operational offering breakfast, brunch and lunch daily. And their head chef Abbie Hendren, previously at La Trompette and The Glasshouse, is busy creating new dishes using seasonal and, where possible, local ingredients.

On the day we visited at noon, we were persuaded by the manager Kris to try both the Chiswick Bellini, a lovely mixture of peach puree and sparkling wine, and a wonderfully spicy Bloody Mary. We then had the Hereford Rump Steak with a fried egg and chimichurri on sour dough and the sweet potato and adobo quesadilla. The steak and egg were beautifully cooked and, as always at Sam's, looked equally good. The quesadilla had just the right amount of chilli kick and the streaky bacon side made it really substantial dish.

We then tried the lemon and ricotta hotcakes which were just little fluffs of deliciousness. Kris said the hotcakes were so popular they were now permanent fixtures on the menu with only the toppings changing according to what was seasonally available. On our visit they were topped with strawberry compote and a nice scoop of whipped mascarpone.

The coffee was very good and is sourced from small growers by a Chiswick resident and, surprisingly, roasted just up the road in Bedford Park before being brought straight to Sam's Kitchen ready to grind.

The obvious question is "will Sam's Kitchen start opening in the evening?" and the answer is that there are plans to run a few supper clubs with a set menu and tickets sold in advance.
