Introducing Son of Osterley Bookshop
Ad - Come along to bag a bargain and experience the new shop focus
Well, we spoke too soon.
Readers will have seen our earlier post announcing the closure of the bookshop while we pursued our other enthusiams. However, after a great deal of pressure from customers and a small sense of regret ourselves, we have had to reconsider.
And this is what we have decided: the shop shall carry on but in a new guise. We will still have some books, a lot of more of our very popular greeting cards and anything else we just like the look of.
Also, the shop will reduce its hours and only open on Saturdays and Sundays from the beginning of November from 9:30 to 17:30.
In the interim, the September sale continues.
The menu comprises:
- All fictional paperbacks, Penguins, lit etc: £2.00 ea.
- All factual paperbacks: 1/2 our marked prices.
- All Sci Fi, fantasy, romance, thrillers etc: £1.00 ea.
- All hardbacks fact or fiction: art, history, lit, 1sts, signed etc: ½ our marked prices.
- With sales of 10 books or more a further 10% off.
- … and assorted fixtures and fittings (to collect end Oct/Nov in the final days).
- Plus newly added antiques and bric-a-brac.
From the 1st of October name any fair price and the item is yours!
Facts above, emotions below.
Our original closing announcement caused far more ruck than we ever imagined: phone calls from New York, emails from Japan, stories of people growing up alongside our attempts at playing shop (an inadvertent, too long to explain detour – from original architectural, art-centric reason for getting this ex-railway station, windows still bricked up from the war!) and how much they’d “enjoyed playing customers” … er? “In our obvious charade at pretending to be a real shop” … double … er? Whatever ramshackle business we created all you customers (bar one of two) have been great. From the little girl who popped a note through the door thanking us for the nome which she bought for her nome house which she thought was too cheep – to the thespian who buys several dozen books a year, we couldn't live without you!
