“I would recommend you and your course to anyone” (student review)

Do you know someone who is always saying “I'd love to take up oil painting, but I just can't get started”? Maybe you even say it to yourself…

Now you can do something about it!

Discover an exciting approach to this most rewarding of art practices.

Small groups working in weekly three-hour sessions quickly pick up and gain confidence in a wide range of skills. Key to this approach is getting you to discover your own character as a painter and to work from it. We learn all the time from the Masters – but there is no one style to copy.

No previous experience is necessary for this course, but even experienced painters have found their understanding greatly enhanced and new possibilities opened up by taking this course as a refresher.

All classes are taught by Peter Burgess, a friendly and experienced teacher, in a relaxed and supportive studio environment.

At the end of the four-week introductory course there is the option to continue working with Peter and to explore further courses covering Portraiture, Landscape, Abstraction, etc. – please use the contact details at the bottom of the page to ask for further details.

Wednesday mornings and afternoons

If you paint - whether as a hobby or a profession - and you would like guidance and advice from teachers, we can help. There are weekly group classes on Wednesdays where you can work and get feedback in a productive regular session. The successful Studio 17 group exhibition is built on these sessions. Mentoring is also available on a one-to-one basis.

Robert Dunt is an abstract/pop art artist who graduated from City & Guilds of London Art School (2004) with First Class honours. His painting, prints and installations are inspired by music and explore the use of colour in a contemporary context. His practice has a rebel ethic that distorts art traditions in order to create surprising and original works: “Like putting Botticelli's Venus through a Jimi Hendrix Fuzz Face distortion pedal.”
